TOMOGRAPHY for cats, dogs and other pets

Computer Animal Tomography (CT) is a pet survey carried out at the Animal Clinic in Borova by progressive equipment - CT Scan Iona-VeT. It gives our veterinarians real-time access to high-quality images from different perspectives.

The device takes photos of the selected area or organ in layers by second. They are quickly processed by the computer and combined into a 3D model. It is used by a physician to determine the health of an animal. CT allows localization of the injury or disease. In Kyiv oblast we carry out the examination of such areas of a patient’s organism:

Important: mobility and panic of the animal prevent to get a good image, therefore in our branch in PGT Borovaya common practice has been introduced: the introduction of anesthesia before the procedure. So during the CAT scan, your favorite one will sleep.

Why is it better to bring a pet to the CT at the Animal Clinic?

  • ТAn accurate diagnosis in one visit.
We can do CT scans, X-rays, and other diagnostics: you don’t have to go to different clinics to get a diagnosis, and you don’t have to torture the pet with multiple anesthesia. The machine can detect only 0.5 mm of lesion, so our specialist will definitely not miss a pathology if there is one.
  • A case-by-case approach to patient research.
We do CT scans for dogs, cats and other pets. For each of them, a specific X-ray load is selected according to the weight.
  • Studies of different levels of complexity.
Any area of animal body, including vessels and lymph nodes, can be examined. A contrast substance is used to obtain precise information on the parameters and characteristics of the pathology.
  • Control during and after the procedure.
During the CT scan, the anesthesiologist is next to the patient, observing his condition.

Readings to the CT:

  • Foreign body.
  • Suspected neoplasm or metastasis.
  • Vascular abnormalities.
  • Congenital heart disease.
  • Diseases of the genitourinary system.
  • Injuries of a head, chest, spine, abdomen, extremities.
  • Internal disorders, acute abdominal pain.
  • Orthopaedic diseases: deformation of bones and joints, dysplasia, arthritis, arthrosis.

Contraindications to computer tomography:

  • Pregnancy.
  • Intolerance to the components of anesthesia.
  • Acute renal or liver failure.

Frequently asked questions about CT

How do you prepare an animal for a CT scan?

Don’t feed your favorite one for 12 hours and don’t give water for 6 hours before your CT scan. The timing varies depending on the animal’s breed, so consult the veterinarian first. Do a preliminary exam of the pet (ultrasound of the heart, general and biochemical blood test) to see if it is safe to administer anesthesia. Be sure to take with you the results of your previous research.

Is the procedure bad for an animal?

No. CT scan is a safe way to examine. The radiation load is much lower than other old models. Besides, the procedure doesn’t last long. Thanks to the preliminary examination and supervision of our experienced veterinarians, you don’t have to worry about your quadruped friend.

How long does a CT scan take?

The procedure itself lasts from 5 to 40 minutes. But it usually takes about 2 hours from the time the owners and pet come to the clinic before going home. The duration depends on the weight of the patient and the size of the area being scanned.

If they did an X-ray, why would they do a CT scan?

Our Iona-VeT diagnostic complex allows to perform X-ray examination and computer tomography. The difference is in the amount of information. The X-ray is relevant for a preliminary examination. The images only show serious deviations and only one plane. CT detects any changes, even minor masses in the animal’s body.
