Seasons of providing services to cats
The periods of care for cats by our veterinarians are directly related to the seasonality of diseases of these pets. In the season of heat and cold, cats fall ill with various ailments. About them and the method of preventing them will be discussed in the article.
Main feline diseases and their seasonality
Cats are often infected with these ailments:
-
Rabies.
A cat can become infected while walking outside from the bite of a rat or other infected animal. There are also rare cases when pets become infected in the country - from wild animals, mainly foxes, or infected local dogs and cats. This is a fatal disease for any pet if it has not been vaccinated. Often cases of rabies are recorded in the spring and summer, but the risk of contracting it remains for a cat all year round. -
Calicivirus
The virus can live in a moist environment for about 10 days. This determines the pronounced seasonal character - the cold season. The first symptoms are discharge from the nose and eyes, depressed state, refusal to eat, high temperature, urges resembling vomiting. Ulcers may appear on the mucous membrane of the oral cavity, due to which the animal cannot fully yawn. It is transmitted by direct contact, through the air, as well as through care items. -
Panleukopenia is parvovirus enteritis in cats.
Also, the viral disease is widely known under the name "feline distemper". Cases of the disease are more often recorded in summer and late autumn. The source of the infectious agent is a sick animal that secretes the virus with discharge from the nasal cavity and eyes, saliva, urine and feces. -
Respiratory infections.
Rhinitis, tracheobronchitis, viral pneumonia. They rage most often in autumn and spring. Sneezing and coughing are the most common symptoms. A cat can become infected from a sick animal. But even purely pets are at risk, because the owners can bring pathogenic microflora into the house on the soles of their shoes.
All these ailments are difficult for cats to tolerate, and if proper medical care is not provided, some are always or in some cases fatal.
Prevention of feline diseases
In order for the animal not to die from a viral disease, it must be vaccinated in a timely manner. Vaccinating a cat is the most effective way to prevent illness.
The first vaccine is given to a kitten 6–8 weeks old — a complex preparation FVRCP — against respiratory viral infections, panleukopenia, calicivirosis. The second - the same vaccine is given at 9-12 weeks. An adult cat is vaccinated with the FVRCP + R complex (against rabies) every year. If your pet is still not vaccinated, take care of this measure as soon as possible!
In the branches of our network of Animal Clinic veterinary centers in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, cats are vaccinated humanely, with high-quality vaccines contained in optimal conditions. After vaccination, follow the vaccination calendar as well as the veterinarian's recommendations, and let your pet be healthy.
