When a pet starts vomiting, most owners do not know how to react and what to do. Our veterinary clinic in Kyiv offers you to understand the nature of this phenomenon.

Features and causes of vomiting

In cats and dogs, vomiting can be of two types:

  1. Acute. It started abruptly, appeared only once or many times. In this case, the animal as a whole looks normal or a little lethargic, refuses to eat.
  2. Chronic. The process of emptying the stomach occurs with a certain frequency. At this vomiting the remains of a forage, gastric juice, bile turn out.

If the general condition of the pet is normal, most likely, everything is fine, and he just ate more food than normal. In cats, it may be vomiting licked hair or grass that she has recently eaten.

But vomiting can also be a sign of poisoning (common in summer), a foreign object in the stomach or intestines, diseases such as inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, cancer, worm infestation, diseases of the genitourinary system. Vomiting may be the only or one of the symptoms of the pathology - in combination with diarrhea, cough and fever.

How to help a pet with vomiting?

You need to analyze what could have caused the vomiting. In its acute form and noticeably deteriorated condition, come to the vet clinic IMMEDIATELY. If recurrent vomiting is present, but the pet is generally OK, a routine visit to the vet and examination will be required.

Diagnosis is needed to find out the exact cause of vomiting and eliminate it. It is better to bring your pet to the vet center on an empty stomach: 8 hours of starvation for adult animals. This will allow for one visit to take blood for analysis and ultrasound of internal organs. In most cases, this helps to make a preliminary diagnosis and prescribe therapy. But in the future you may need radiography, endoscopic examination, computed tomography, etc.

Carefully watch what and how much your cat or dog eats. If you still can't follow the pet, or the vomiting started suddenly, for no apparent reason, hurry to show it to the vet so that the animal can recover as soon as possible.
