Colposcopy - a study of the female reproductive system
Colposcopy, or vaginoscopy as it is called, is an endoscopic examination of the vagina and part of the cervix. This type of endoscopy is an important method of diagnosing the female reproductive system. Colposcopy in Kiev is intended for animals to check the condition of the genitals.
Colposcopy capability
With colposcopy, our veterinarians visually determine whether there are any neoplasms or other lesions on the mucosa. The colposcope has a special magnifying glass equipped with a lighting device. With this device, we get a 30-fold or larger image.
Aiming biopsy of the pathological cell with colposcope and special tools introduced through it allows Animal Clinic specialists to perform a morphological examination to make the final diagnosis. In addition, some operations can be performed with an endoscope if necessary.
When is colposcopy carried out?
Colposcopy is assigned to a dog or cat if:
- There’s a suspicion of an outside body.
- Purulent or other pathological secretions from vulva have been observed.
- A tumor was discovered earlier in the animal.
If the vet orders an endoscopic operation after the examination, don’t worry about your pupil. Such surgical interventions are minimally invasive and painless for the female, as she is under anaesthetic, as during the examination.
