Ultrasound of the pelvic organs of females
Pathological changes in the uterus can be detected thanks to modern ultrasound equipment, which is equipped with our veterinary clinic in Kyiv - Animal Clinic. It is imperative to bring your pet for an ultrasound of the uterus in case of:
- Purulent and bloody discharge from the vulva.
- A noticeable increase in the volume of the abdominal cavity.
- Lack of appetite, while the animal is lethargic and inactive.
- Frequent need to urinate.
- Severe thirst.
Ultrasonography is also indicated if contraceptives have been used. As a preventive measure and for the timely detection of postpartum complications, uterine ultrasound is indicated on the 7-10th day after delivery. The degree of preparation of the animal for the examination affects the quality of uterine visualization. That is why we recommend making sure that the bladder is moderately full and the rectum is empty.
Ultrasound examination of the ovaries
Together with the ultrasound of the uterus, an examination of the ovaries is performed. Some indications for the procedure are:
- Pathological vaginal discharge.
- Formations in the abdominal and pelvic cavities.
- Uterine bleeding that does not correspond to the cycle.
- Infertility.
- Disorders of sexual behavior.
- Atypical cells detected in genital tract and urine smears, according to the results of the analysis.
- Pathologies of the uterus.
- Past trauma.
With the help of ultrasound, the owner of a newly found pet can find out if the ovaries and uterus have been removed before. Ultrasound examination of the ovaries allows our veterinarian to visualize cysts, neoplasms, hematomas, follicles, diagnose adhesions, and perform dynamic monitoring of cysts. Both procedures are performed transabdominally: through the outer abdominal wall, with the transducer attached to the patient's abdomen.
