Ultrasonography of abdominal organs
Ultrasound examination (sonography) is a non-invasive and absolutely painless method of instrumental diagnostics. It allows repeatedly performing the necessary examinations without radiation exposure to the patient. The convection transducer of the Z.ONE ultrasound machine installed in Animal Clinic allows for a quick and complete assessment of the condition of the abdominal organs: liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, gastrointestinal tract, pancreas and spleen.
Possibilities of ultrasound examination of abdominal organs
This safe diagnostic method allows our veterinarians in Kyiv to diagnose
- Congenital pathologies of internal organs.
- Inflammation and abscesses of internal organs.
- Obstruction of the gastrointestinal tract.
- Vascular pathologies.
- The presence of injuries due to trauma.
- Neoplasms.
- Postoperative complications.
Thanks to ultrasound, we determine the location of organs, their condition and functioning, check for foreign bodies, and visualize free gas and free fluid in the abdominal cavity.
Preparation for the examination
For our specialists to obtain reliable ultrasound results, a preliminary fasting diet is required before the procedure. For dogs, it is 8-10 hours of fasting, and for cats - 6 hours. Free access to water is allowed. Immediately before the ultrasound, the hair is removed from the abdominal wall with a clipper. The patient is placed on his/her side - acoustic gel is applied.
Indications for abdominal ultrasonography
Animals that react painfully to touching the abdomen are referred for abdominal ultrasound. Other indications for this diagnostic method are:
- Vomiting.
- Increased abdominal volume.
- Disorders of bowel movements.
- Loss or increase in appetite.
- Poisoning, etc.
