Mechanical examination of the internal surface and colon

Our veterinarian uses a special endoscope - rectoscope - with optical and lighting systems to conduct rectoromanoscopy in Kiev. This small device is injected through the anus of an animal. The rectoramanoscopy allows to supplement the information obtained from the patient’s rectal finger examination.

In what cases is a rectoromanoscopy prescribed?

Indications for rectoramanoscopy are:

• Constipation and alternation of constipation and diarrhoea.
• Excretion with feces of blood, pus and mucus.
• Rectum loss.
• Suspicion of a foreign body.

Хід процедури

Безпосередньо перед ректороманоскопією пацієнтові ставлять клізму. Під час самого дослідження тварина знаходиться під загальною анестезією. Тубус ендоскопа змащується спеціальним гелем і вводиться в задній прохід строго по просвіту кишки. Потім в тубус накачується повітря, щоб розправити складки слизової, запалюється лампочка ендоскопа, і через його окуляр ветеринар оглядає просвіт кишки, оцінюючи такі особливості, як:

1. Color.
2. Brilliance.
3. Elasticity.
4. Relief.
5. Vascular pattern.
6. Temperament.
7. Presence or absence of pathological changes.
8. Motor activity and bowel tone.

The procedure lasts about 15 minutes.
