Cats and dogs may have a strange discharge from their genitals. The problem is typical for both females and males. Sometimes this phenomenon is the result of a minor disorder in which topical treatment is sufficient, and in some cases it is a serious disease that requires medication or surgery.

Discharge in males: features and causes

Discharge in cats and dogs can be seen on the foreskin of the penis. A little light yellow lubrication in this area is the physiological norm for males. If this discharge is so abundant that the animal often licks itself, or if the substance has a dark tint, especially with an admixture of blood, there is a pathological process. Your cat or dog's discharge could be due to one of these reasons:

  • The pet is not neutered.
  • There is inflammation or a neoplasm in the foreskin.
  • There is an injury to the foreskin.
  • There is an infectious, traumatic or oncological disease of the urethra.
  • Blood clotting is impaired.
  • Bladder disease develops. These can be, for example, uroliths (urinary stones) or inflammation.
  • The number of platelets in the blood has decreased.
  • The prostate gland is affected: for example, it is enlarged or affected by an inflammatory process (prostatitis).
  • The animal does not control the process of urination.

In addition to discharge, have you noticed spots on the penis, swelling of the foreskin, or loss of appetite? Take him to the veterinary clinic immediately for diagnosis and treatment.

Discharge in females from the loop (vagina): causes and solutions

With the onset of estrus, female dogs have a slight discharge of blood from the loop 1-2 times a year. This phenomenon is not typical for cats. Also, sloppy discharge without an unpleasant odor within 3 weeks after the birth of the offspring is considered the norm. Cats and dogs may also have abnormal discharge:

  • Pinkish - in case of urinary tract infection or if the uterus is inflamed.
  • Purulent or bloody - in case of neoplasia or cancer. The phenomenon may also indicate that there is a foreign body in the vagina.
  • Liquid, with mucus - if there is vaginal inflammation.
  • Bloody, or blood is present in the urine - when blood clotting is disturbed.

Do not ignore the signs of a pathological process: they require an immediate visit to the veterinarian. The pet will undergo the necessary laboratory tests and hardware diagnostics, based on the results of which the doctor will prescribe treatment.
