Ultrasound examination is the most common and most accessible way of visualizing the condition of the internal organs of animals. Modern equipment is important, and this is what is used in our chain of Animal Clinic veterinary centers.

In addition, it is necessary to properly prepare the pet for the procedure. The preparation process differs depending on the physiological parameters of the patient and the organ to be examined.

Types of ultrasound for animals

An ultrasound machine makes it possible to examine various organs and systems of an animal's body. The procedure is performed for:

  1. Establishing the fact of pregnancy, the number of fetuses and details about their status.
In the early stages, the effectiveness of ultrasound during pregnancy is low, so we recommend bringing a pet no earlier than half of the gestation period. In cats, pregnancy lasts 56–60 days, that is, it is better to come for an ultrasound on the 30th day. Dogs bear puppies for 58-66 days. From the 35th day, we are waiting for you and your pet for an examination.
  2. Examination of the state of the prostate and bladder.
In order for the results to be correct, your pet's bladder must be full at the time of the test.
  3. Examination of the abdominal cavity.

An informative event, a priority in the list of diagnostic procedures.

How to prepare a pet for abdominal ultrasound?

In order for the results of the ultrasound examination to be reliable, it is necessary to eliminate the excess of gases by special means. Do this 24-48 hours before the procedure, based on the pet's weight:

  • 2–5 kg. Espumizan L - 1 ml twice a day. Vaseline oil 2.5 ml — also 2 times a day.
  • 5–10 kg. Espumizan L — 2 ml 2 times a day, as well as 5 ml of vaseline oil 2 times a day.
  • 10–20 kg. Espumizan in tablets — 1 piece 2 times a day. 10 ml of vaseline oil - 2 times a day.
  • 20–40 kg. Espumizan in tablets - 2 tablets 2 times a day. 20 ml of vaseline oil - twice a day.
  • More than 40 kg. Espumizan in tablets - 2 tablets 2 times a day. Vaseline oil also 2 times a day — 40 ml.

Remember that an empty bladder is poorly visualized even with the best equipment, so make sure it remains full. Before the ultrasound, the veterinarian will use a razor to remove the fur in the area of the scan, because otherwise the scanner will not be able to show the organs of the abdominal cavity.

At the Animal Clinic, the stress factor for patients is minimized, because our specialists treat animals carefully and humanely. Ultrasound is absolutely safe for your pet's health.
